Digital Freedoms Lab (DFLab) is a team of experts within the human rights organization Human Constanta. We protect people, organizations, and communities from digital threats.
Grounded in human rights principles, we work at the intersection of digital security, digital rights protection, and community capacity-building. We primarily support NGOs, journalists, human rights defenders, and activists, with a particular focus on Belarusian civil society in exile as well as the broader Eastern European region (Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova).
What we do:
- Digital rights and freedoms — research, advocacy, and policy work.
- Digital security — protection from surveillance, consultations, spyware forensics, and support in cases of account compromise.
- Digital transformation — building digital skills and capacity within communities.
Our services:
- Digital security audits
- Cyberattack investigation and spyware forensics
- AI implementation and workflow development
- Training programs for teams and communities
- Support with data protection, GDPR compliance, and secure data handling
Beyond individual consultations, we conduct research — for example, studying digital repression in Belarus and transnational authoritarianism. We also run hands-on workshops for journalists, media professionals, and young activists facing digital threats in exile and amid cross-border repression.
Since 2024, we’ve been building a community of tech enthusiasts: IT-Talaka volunteers, former Google engineers, and civil society activists — all united by a shared interest in using technology for the public good. Together, we learn and experiment, exploring how new tools can strengthen the work of human rights organizations and movements.
Building on this foundation, we’re preparing to launch a new service — comprehensive AI agents for NGOs. This is a turnkey, end-to-end solution that combines AI implementation with security and organizational management consulting. The goal is to help civil society organizations adopt new technologies safely, sustainably, and in line with their values.
